9:00 - 11:00
Your tour guide will pick you up at your hotel lobby in downtown Chongqing at 9:00 AM, and then we'll drive approximately 2 hours to the Baodingshan Rock Carvings Visitor Center.
11:00 - 12:30
The Dazu Rock Carvings are mainly concentrated in five major areas, among which the Baoding Mountain and Beishan Rock Carvings are the most spectacular. Firstly we'll visit the Baodingshan area.
The Dazu Baodingshan Rock Carvings are situated northeast of Dazu District. Despite being just 500 meters in length, this area is filled with tens of thousands of exquisite stone sculptures. Many of these carvings are painted, highlighting the superb skills of ancient craftsmen. They used a remarkable palette of colors, including blues, greens, reds, and even gold leaf.
There are three must-sees. The most famous Reclining Buddha, one is the world's largest half-reclining Buddha statue. It symbolizes the state of Nirvana in Buddhism and the nirvana and transcendence of Sakyamuni Buddha. Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara is a massive statue with 830 arms, each holding a Buddhist ritual object, weapon, or farming tool. And Wheel of Samsara describes cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, driven by desire and ignorance.
12:30 - 15:00
Take a break to have lunch (not included in the tour). We will continue to visit the Dazu Rock Carvings Museum.
The museum covers an area of 6,500 square meters and is the largest professional cave temple museum in China. It is themed on caves and mainly collects cultural relics from the open-air cave temples in the Dazu Rock Carvings Scenic Area. There is a collection of nearly 500 cultural relics.
15:00 - 16:00
Then we will visit the Beishan Stone Carvings (Optional). It's located 1.5 kilometers north of Longgang Town, Dazu, covering an area of 500 meters and divided into two sections of north and south. This expansive site showcases over 5,000 meticulously crafted sculptures, like Avalokiteshvara with Rosary, Marici, the Warrior Goddess, the Largest Water-Moon Avalokiteshvara which is most well-preserved statue of Avalokiteshvara meditating on the reflection of the moon in water and Wheel of Dharma Sutra Cave, etc.
16:00 - 18:00
Our tour will ends after visiting the Beishan Stone Cavings, and we will transfer back to Chongqing city and arrive around 6pm.
