Detailed Itinerary

The day before the tour

The evening before your trip, the tour guide will call you via hotel at around 7:00 to 8:00 pm to confirm the exact departure time for the next day. If you are not available at that moment, the guide will leave a message for you at your hotel front desk.

Just in case of you receive neither a call nor a message after 8:00 pm the day before your trip departure, please simply track your trip status via Track-Your-Trip and input your order number and you’ll find the information about the pickup time of your trip and ther tour guide. Also, you can call Trippest Beijing Office 24-hour hotline at +86-13910694045. We will solve your problems on the spot.

7:00 - 8:00Hotel pickup

Your guide will be waiting for you in your hotel lobby in the morning at an appointed time around 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM, with holding your name sign or Trippest Logo.

Good to know:
  • What is the free pickup and drop-off area? Hotel pickup and drop-off services are available within the 4th Ring Zone of Beijing, if it is outside of this area, we provide two ways for you to meet the tour guide. Please find more details in FAQs.

8:00 - 10:30Visit Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City

You will be transferred to the world largest urban square – Tian’anmen Square in the center of Beijing city by our comfortable vehicle with air-conditioning. You’ll see the famous portrait of Chairman Mao hanging on the wall of the Gate of Heavenly Peace. Your guide will tell you about the history or some interesting stories of this hero man – Mao Zedong.

Important Note
  • Tian’anmen Square could be temporarily enforced martial law due to government activities, which we can NOT be informed in advance. So the tour guide may adjust the itinerary according to the current situation.

Walk forward through the middle gate of Tian’anmen rostrum you’ll see a huge red gate in front of you. That is the gate to the Forbidden City. Do you know why all the gates are painted in red? Do you know why it is called the Forbidden City? Do you know how large it is as an imperial palace? It is said that there is 9,999½ forbidden imperial chambers home to 24 emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1420–1911). But where is the other ½ room? Do you know the features of these ancient imperial architectures? Do you know there are tens of thousands treasures being collected in this palace? Do you know the hidden stories and lives of ancient Chinese emperors and their wives? Please find the answers by yourself or ask your guide for the answers while in the Forbidden City.

What makes us different?

The Forbidden City is a must-see attraction in Beijing. Most travel companies would include this attraction in their trip. But what makes us different?

  1. Skip the lines at the entrance. You don’t have to queue up for the entrance while other groups have to stand in a queue to buy the tickets for more than half an hour! In order to save up your precious time, your guide will buy tickets for you online in advance so that you can go in the Forbidden City directly!
  2. We go deep into the attraction. In the Forbidden City, we include 10 important palace chambers along with their history and background information while other groups only glance 6 similar rooms.
  3. Better equipment, better experiences. It is quite touristy and noisy in the Forbidden City. In order to make sure you can hear what your guide is talking about. We have prepared FM headsets while the group is more than 3 people so that you can hear your guide clearly.

10:30 - 12:30Drive to the Great Wall at Mutianyu

1½ – 2 hours car riding from downtown Beijing to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. There could be other participants join in the tour to visit the Great Wall. But the group would be no more than 6 people.

12:30 - 13:30Lunch time

Have a rest and get refreshed, enjoy a simple set menu lunch at a local restaurant before going up to the Great Wall.

Good to know:
  • We understand and respect your dietetic contraindication. But due to the group tour, we may have a variety of dietary requirements from all group members. We try to meet individual requirement but can NOT 100% satisfy. Thank you for your understading. Also according to the limited condition, for example, we might order vegetatrian food for vegan and indian customers, and order beef or lamb food for muslim and jewish customers. The tour guide will double check with you before making an order. Please advise any specific dietary requirements at time of booking.

13:30 - 15:30Visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu Section

After lunch, we’ll begin our hike to the Great Wall at Mutianyu section which would definitely be the highlight of the day! This section of the Great Wall is ranked top among all parts of the Great Wall on TripAdvisor for its unique picturesque scenery, less touristy and fully-restored architecture.

In order to save your time, we suggest you to choose round-way cable car or round-way chairlift and toboggan ascend to and descend from the Great Wall, instead of spending about 40 minutes climbing lots of boring steps. Cable car station is at Tower 14. Chairlift & toboggan station is at Tower 6. We have included the costs of round-way cable car or round-way chairlift (or toboggan) ascend to and descend from the Great Wall. If you want to take one way cable car up and one way chairlift or toboggan down, you need to pay the price difference CNY100 per person at your own expense.

At the Wall you’ll have free time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and your guide will show you the background information of the Great Wall. The cable car ascends to and descends from the 14th watch tower. We recommend you to hike up the most beautiful part of the Great Wall – between the 14th and 23rd watch towers which were known by hikers as “the Golden Route”. However the chairlift ascends to the 6th watch tower while the toboggan descends from tower 6 too. It might be a challenge to hike from the 6th watch tower to the 23rd watch tower. But you can decide based on your physic condition.

Normally it would take about 2 hours to complete the hike from the 14th watch tower to 23rd watch tower.

Good to know:
  • Why we choose to visit the Great Wall in the afternoon? Good question! We found that it would very crowded in the Great Wall in the morning while there are fewer crowds in the afternoon also the traffic conditions would be much better in the afternoon. And it is the best time for taking good photos in the afternoon. That’s why we decide to visit the Great Wall in the afternoon.
  • Get refreshed in Trippest Refreshments Kiosk! We have set up a Refreshments Kiosk at the foot of Mutianyu Great Wall. Trippest customers will receive free drinking water at the service site.

15:30 - 18:00Return to your hotel

After visiting the Great Wall at Mutianyu, this day trip comes to the end. Your guide and driver will transfer you back to your hotel or airport (train station) to catch your onward flight (train). Going back to your hotel in Beijing will normally take about 1½ hours. Going to Beijing Capital Airport directly normally takes about 2 hours from Mutianyu.

Good to know:
  • Are you planning to leave Beijing after the trip? If yes, please do check out your hotel before your trip start. You may leave your luggage in our vehicle and you will be transferred to airport or train station straight after the trip to make best use of your time.

    1. Free transfer to train station. It is about 40-60 minutes driving from city center to train station. We suggest you to arrive at the train station at least 1 hour before departure.

    2. Transfer to airport (paid service). Please make sure to preserve 1 hour for the transfer from city center to airport and plus you need to arrive at the airport at least 1½ hours in before for a domestic flight, or 2½ hours for an international flight. Please tell us about your flight information when booking and remind our guide while in the trip. If you need this connection transfer service, please click here Beijing Airport Transfer Service to book it in advance.

Recently, my son and I did a 1 day tour of Beijing… Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Mutianyu Great Wall. Lily was our guide, and she was great. She was knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Her sense of humour was appreciated as was her command of English. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and we would highly recommend Lily. Thank you so much!!
