In the morning your guide will be waiting for you in your hotel lobby at the appointed time around 7:00 – 8:30 AM and you will be transferred to the world largest urban square – Tian’anmen Square in the center of Beijing city by our comfortable and clean vehicle. You&rsquo’ll see the famous portrait of Chairman Mao hanging on the wall of the Gate of Heavenly Peace. Your guide will show you about the history or some interesting stories of this hero man – Mao Zedong. You’ll find the obvious feature of this socialist country, China, a country that I both love and hate…
Walk forward through the middle gate of Tian’anmen rostrum you’ll see a huge red gate in front of you. That is the gate to the Forbidden City. Do you know why all the gates are painted in red? Do you know why it is called the Forbidden City? Do you know how large it is as an imperial palace? It is said that there is 9,999½ forbidden imperial chambers home to 24 emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1420–1911). But where is the other ½ room? Do you know the features of these ancient imperial architectures? Do you know there are tens of thousands treasures being collected in this palace? Did you know the hidden stories and lives of ancient Chinese emperors and their wives? Please find the answers by yourself or ask your guide for the answers while in the Forbidden City.
Yes, the Forbidden City is a must-see attraction in Beijing. Most travel companies would include this attraction in their trip. But what makes us different?
After visiting the Forbidden City we will drive about 1½ hours to the foot of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. We’ll enjoy a delicious Beijing local food for lunch at our well-selected local restaurant – Xinshuangquan. (Please note that the restaurant is subject to change due to some unexpected reasons.)
After lunch, we’ll begin our hike to the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu which would defiantly be the highlight of the day! This section of the Great Wall is ranked top among all parts of the Great Wall on TripAdvisor for its unique picturesque scenery, less touristy and fully-restored architecture.
In order to save your time, we suggest you to choose round-way cable car or round-way chairlift and toboggan ascend to and descend from the Great Wall, instead of spending about 40 minutes climbing lots of boring steps. (Please note that we have included the costs of round-way cable car or round-way chairlift and toboggan ascend to and descend from the Great Wall. If you want to take one way cable car and one way chairlift or toboggan, you need to pay the price difference CNY80 per person at your own expense.)
At the Wall you’ll have free time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and your guide will show you the background information of the Great Wall. The cable car ascends to and descends from the 14th watch tower. We recommend you to hike up the most beautiful part of the Great Wall – between the 14th and 23rd watch towers which were known by hikers as “the Golden Route”. However the chairlift ascends to the 6th watch tower while the toboggan descends from tower 6 too. It might be a challenge to hike from the 6th watch tower to the 23rd watch tower. But you can decide based on your physic condition.
Normally it would take about 2 hours to complete the hike from the 14th watch tower to 23rd watch tower.
After visiting the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu this day trip comes to the end. Your guide and driver will transfer you back to your hotel or airport (train station) to catch your onward flight (train). Going back to your hotel in Beijing will normally take about 1½ hours. Going to Beijing Capital Airport directly normally takes about 2 hours from Mutianyu.
If you need to book our transfer service to the airport or train station please click here to book it in advance: https://www.trippest.com/tour/beijing-private-airport-transfer/ Thank you for choosing Trippest. Recently, my son and I did a 1 day tour of Beijing… Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Mutianyu Great Wall. Lily was our guide, and she was great. She was knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Her sense of humour was appreciated as was her command of English. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and we would highly recommend Lily. Thank you so much!!
Very interesting tour with a good guide (Bill). The Great Wall walk is incredibly fascinating. I do recomend the tour operator and the guide.
