One-day Zhouzhuang and Jinxi Water Town Tour

Visit two totally different water towns near Shanghai: Zhouzhuang and Jinxi

“This is an "Oriental Venice" tour of two totally different Chinese ancient towns: Zhouzhuang and Jinxi. Why are they regarded as "Oriental Venice"? Unlike other Chinese ancient towns, Zhouzhuang and Jinxi are surrounded by water. Water, architectures of the Ming and Qing dynasties, leisurely boats, ancient bridges, and the authentic local lifestyle together composed a harmony poem of ideal life. Don't worry about your work or troubles anymore; just following your heart; taking a leisurely boat; admiring these elegant small water towns' scenery; cheers for such precious leisure time! ”

Visit Zhouzhuang Water Town

Our first stop is Zhouzhuang Water Town, which is the most highlight on this day. Taking a gondola and witnessing this 900-years-old water town. Houses and bridges there were built in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1912), which make the town more ancient and more historic.

For having a better understanding of this town, we have selected 3 representative old houses into our itineraries: Shen's House, Zhang's House, and Ye Chucang's Residence. These houses were the witnesses of the history of this town, and they all built by the local famous people.

  • Shen's House: The lavish property of Shen's House was built in 1742 by the descendant of a wealthy merchant named ShenWansan. It features typical Qing-style architecture and covers 2,000 square meters, containing seven courtyards, five corridors, and over 100 rooms.
  • Zhang's House: The beautiful structure with 70 rooms and six courtyards was constructed between 1436 and 1449, and it has a total area of 1,800 square meters. The luxury house was bought by the Zhang clan (a wealthy local clan) in early Qing times.
  • Ye Chucang's Residence: Ye Chucang was a famous poet and politician. His residence was built on Xiwan Street and consists of five yards. The Main Hall was his workroom and the Rear Hall was used to receive his friends.

Have lunch at a local restaurant by the side of water way

Don't ignoring the lunch time! It is also an interesting experience that you can enjoy some delicious local dishes while overlooking the beautiful water town's scenery from the windows.

We have selected a typical local restaurant for you, and all the dishes have been well selected by our product manager based on the taste of customers from different corner in the world.

For offering you a nice lunch time, we will have dinner on the second floor of the restaurant. It's really a harmony picture: having a delicious lunch; the willow trees outside are swaying in the wind; gondolas are transferring on the water way.

Visit Jinxi Water Town

Jinxi is the last stop in this tour. Jinxi Ancient Town is famous for its picturesque sceneries, and most of the architecture there has retained its original looks.

Compared with Zhouzhuang, Jinxi is more authentic and original.  It's a quiet small water town with 16 lakes and 238 rivers, but it has a history of more than 2,500 years.

Catching a sight of the beautiful scenery and taking photos of it is a "must-do" activity to include on your trip list.
There are many special museums in this town, visiting museums is a good way to get close to the local culture and history.

Our product manager has carefully selected 3 representative museums for you: the first museum of antique tiles and bricks in China, the Red Porcelain Museum, and a root carving museum.

I was a little nervous to travel China as a young girl so I decided to book this tour and I am so happy I did! My guide William was friendly, knowledgeable and overall great. There were only a couple of us on the tour so it was personal as well. William was always offering to take pictures and share his knowledge on the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Tiananman Square. I would recommend this tour to anyone. :)

Amazing trip!! Tour guide Cactus, was outstanding! Exceeded my expectations. Not only visited the listed places but Cactus went over and beyond to show us additional things outside of the planned trip. Also picked great places to eat and it was important to her that we had private areas to eat at where we could hear and enjoy the small groups company. I would highly recommend requesting Cactus, on your adventure!!

Jimmy was an excellent tour guide. He was on time, personable and extremely knowledgeable on China's history. We appreciated his VIP tour and his thoughtfulness of our group. He made sure our group was away from the crowds and allowed us to view the different sites with exclusivity. He is fluent in English and Mandarin allowing our visit to the Forbidden City to be so much better. Thanks Jimmy!!
