Enjoy a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to Mount Emei. Walking into the old days and explore different E'mei's culture. Step into inherited handicrafts workshops and listen the behind story. Stop at the street food vendors to pick up memories of the childhood's taste. Getting a closer view of Leshan Giant Buddha and have an insight into temple life through a master monk's sermon, Buddhism learning sessions, vegetarian meals, Emei Kungfu, tea plantation and more. This two-day tour includes one night temple stay, an air-conditioned coach hire, an English-speaking guide accompaniment.
Day 1 | Chengdu - Mount E'mei | Old Town Walking Tour, E'mei Kungfu Experience
8:00 am - 11:00 am: Departure.
Tour starts from your hotel at an appointed time. (You'll receive a welcome call from your guide through hotel the night before the tour, who will tell you the exact pick-up time for the next day's trip.)
11:00 am - 2:00 pm: Walking tour at a Laid-back Old Town, a bite of old times, and Kungfu Experience.
You will be drove to an old town at the foot of Mount Emei - Luomu Old Town. Compared to other commerical ancient towns, Luomu Old Town still being original ecology and natural, preserves many handicrafts have been inherited for thousands of years, like blacksmith shop, tailor shop, barber shop, handmade bamboo weaving, ect. Follow your tour guide to taste local snacks, and listen childhood's story of Sichuan people, as if you have a time-travel to old times.
In the past, Luomu Old Town was called Blue Dragons Place, which means a place where many Kungfu men gather together. Located at the foot of Mount E'mei, a kind of martial art was born here, named E'mei Kungfu. As one of three major Chinese Martial Arts, E'mei Kungfu combines Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and other cultures. You will have a chance to visit the intangible cultural heritage inheritor of E'mei Kungfu and experience the different culture of E'mei.
2:00 pm - 2:20 pm: Drive to Mount Emei.
Riding about 20 minutes, you will reach the Mount Emei. E'mei Mountain originates from the north range of Kunlun Mountain, which is composed of Qin Mountain Range and Min Mountain, while Min Mountain begins from Gonglai Mountain Range, which winds its way to E'mei and rises up as the three high and steep peaks of Golden Summit, Thousand Buddha Peak and Ten Thousand Buddha Peak, standing erect between Dadu River and Qingyi River and being the most grand and graceful in the southwest.
2:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Light hike to Fuhu Temple.
Hidden in the forest, 500 Arhats Hall is the highlight of this thousand-year-old monastery. Because of its special location, the ancient emperors believed it is a perfect place to self-cultivation. Take a light hike with your tour guide, relax yourself and breathe deeply.
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Temple stay check-in.
Check-in at Baoguo Temple. The tour guide will show you around the temple. (NOTE: if the temple stay is suddenly closed according to the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control policies, we will arrange foreign economy hotel nearby instead.)
5:30 pm - 7:30 pm: Night visit at Baoguo Temple, vegetarian dinner with monks.
The Baoguo Temple at the foot of the Mt. Emei is the largest temple on the Mt. Emei. The temple was built during the years of Wanli period in the Ming Dynasty. The horizontal tablet of "Baoguo Temple" was written by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. It is the place where the Mt. Emei Buddhist Society is located. You'll have a depth great experience in Baoguo Temple for one night. You will be led by master talk about Zen or meditation, vegetarian dinner at temple.
8:00 pm: Free time.
Enjoy your own peace and quiet moment after crowds leave.
Day 2 | Leshan - Chengdu | Leshan Giant Buddha and Tea Plantation
9:00 am - 9:40 am: Drive to Leshan Giant Buddha.
Heading to the Giant Buddha Park and be dropped off at the boat dock.
10:00 am - 10:30 am: Touring the Giant Buddha by Boat.
You will take a boat ride on the river to see the Buddha from a different perspective. The whole trip will last 15-20 minutes. The boat will take you right up to the Giant Buddha. Standing 233 feet (71 meters) tall, the Leshan Giant Buddha is carved into a cliff face over-looking the confluence of the Dadu, Qingyi, and Min Rivers. The 1,200-year-old Giant Buddha holds the record as the largest Buddha sculpture in the world. His ears stretch for 7 meters, his shoulders span 28 meters, and each of his big toes is 8.5 meters long.
10:30 am - 11:30 am: Drive to Tea Village.
There are many kinds of green tea in China, just only Zhuyeqing Tea (Bamboo-leaf-green Tea) comes from Mount E'mei. Especially the Wannian Temple, Qingyin Pavilion, Bailong Cave and Heishui Temple on the hillside of Mount Emei at an altitude of 800-1200 meters are good places that are rich in bamboo-leaf-green tea.
11:30 am - 2:00 pm: Lunch and Tea Plantation Experience.
After lunch, a short drive takes you up to the mountain. The tea farmer will take you to the tea fields, where we will learn a lot about tea from how to pick up the best tea sprouts or tea buds, to weather conditions and different regions for Tea. Have a try of picking tea from the tea trees. Afterward visiting the tea business family to reveal the process of making all kinds of tea, let's sit down in front of the farm house and enjoy tea – more stories sharing and learning of tea, as in of wine there are Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir in tea as well!
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Return to Chengdu.
Going back to Chengdu normally takes about 2 hours. If you need to catch a flight or a train after the tour, we would be more than happy to help you arrange it. We suggest you take a flight departing after 6 pm or train departing after 5 pm.
