Hotel Pick-up Lama Temple Confucius Temple

In the morning at around 8:00 your guide will pick you up at your hotel and drive to our first destination of the day - the Lama Temple (雍和宫, yōng hé gōng). Back to the history you may find that there are two Chinese emperors used to live here in Qin Dynasty. In 1744 Emperor Qianlong changed this place to a Lama temple since then it has become a Buddhism temple. Here you will see the world’s largest wooden sculpture of Buddha. It is a 26-meter high sculpture of Sakyamuni, the great sage of the West.

After visiting the Lama Temple, just a few walks away from the Lama Temple stands the greatest sage and philosopher of the East call Confucius who has been influencing Chinese people and culture for over thousands years even in nowadays.

Walk along the avenue in the shade of the pine trees, listening to your guide’s presentation while breathing the air, which is filled with the smell of peony flowers. You will understand how the so-called “harmonious life” came into being that so many Chinese saints and sages pursued.

Though those Chinese sages have been pursuing the “truth” but none of them get what they pursued till now we know that God has revealed Himself in the Holy Bible that Jesus, His only beloved Son who has sacrificed Himself for those He has chosen before the creation and died for them on the Cross so that we may know that Jesus is the only way, the “truth” and the life! May God bless His people in China!

Lunch at Jin Ding Xuan restaurant

Lunch will be served at one of the most famous restaurants in Beijing - Jin Ding Xuan (金鼎轩) restaurant which serves traditional Chinese food. Your guide will help you to order the food loved by local people.

Rickshaw and Walking Trip with a Home-Visit in the Hutongs

After lunch we will drive to the Hutong area and take a rickshaw to visit the Hutongs which will bring you back to the old times of Beijing.

Rickshaw might be the best way to explore the Hutongs as you may stay away from the crowds and you don’t have to take too much walk from place to place. You’ll pass by the Drum Tower and walk the Nanluoguxiang which is a very famous food street in Beijing. Also there are many featured shops there.

You’ll also have the chance to take a visit to a traditional Hutong courtyard residence which local people called Siheyuan (四合院). You’ll see the real life of a Beijinger.

"Beijing tour"

Reviewed July 6, 2017

Had a great and informative time with guide, Jimmy! The hutong restaurant and tour on rickshaw was the best part! Super recommend doing this as a must-do activity. Also he took us to the Great Wall but the one further out of town. Great fun for the kids because they can get back down via luge. Jimmy went with the kids, so I didn't have to!

"Great Experience with Peter"

Reviewed July 6, 2017

My wife and I only had 72hrs in China. Luckily we were paired with the most informative guide in Beijing! Peter was fantastic. He seemed to know everything about the culture, the landscape, and history of China. He was caring, genuine, and a wonderful ambassador to the Country/City. He did everything from helping us converse with the locals, to point out the best restaurants near our hotel. Peter is the reason that we loved our very short trip to Beijing and the Great Wall! We cannot recommend Peter enough!

"3 day tour with Cactus!"

Reviewed July 3, 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed the 3 day small group tour in Beijing with our tour guide Cactus from June 17 to June 20. She and the driver were very punctual every morning and supplied us with much-needed bottled water and AC. We were combined with two other parties to make a group of 6, which was just the right size, and the company grouped us according to hotel location so not too much time was spent on transportation between hotels. From the start, Cactus' friendly personality and positive outlook made us feel very welcome in Beijing. She went above and beyond with making our trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible- offering to take pictures of us at many great photo ops, demanding restaurant staff that they move us to a better table, calling our hotel after we realized we left some belongings in the room after checking out, waiting in the lobby with us until our airport transfer arrived. She had extensive knowledge of every attraction and showed us maps and photos on her phone that helped us understand the history even better. Also, the booking process was streamlined and reliable thanks to the China Highlights office. I would definitely recommend China Highlights for a worry-free and enriching experience in Beijing.

We booked a stopover in Beijing and thought that a 3 day tour would maximise our time there. The tour with China Highlights proved to be an excellent choice. With our lovely guide Smile, we truly saw all the highlights of Beijing and the Great Wall and learned a lot about their history. The transport provided was excellent and the lunches chosen by Smile were tasty and varied.
