"5 hours great wall hike"

Reviewed July 22, 2017

We had a great day of hiking with Peter on the most beautiful parts of the great wall in Beijing. The tour takes us through different parts of the wall, from very difficult to more accessible. Throughout our journey, we could appreciate a transition between the less renovated parts to the newly renovated ones. Our guide Peter was very knowledgable and he answered to all of our questions. He also was attentive to everyone during the most difficult parts of the hike. I would absolutely recommend Peter and this hiking trip. Bring good shoes and sunscreen! A hat would be a good idea also.

"Peter - Jiankou - to Mutianyu (Great Wall) small-group hiking tour - an awesome guide and a larger-than-life experience!"

Reviewed July 3, 2017

Jiankou to Mutianyu, Great Wall small-group hiking tour, in early June 2017. Online booking was seamless. PayPal was accepted. Excellent and proactive pre-trip communications by phone and by email (from Iris, travel coordinator). There were four guests including myself on this small-group tour that day. Peter, the guide, was just superlative in every way. He showed up at my hotel early, and the pick-up was easy. This hike starts out on a muddy trail rapidly gaining elevation along a forested mountainside up to one of the Great Wall's watchtowers, where you ascend a rope ladder to gain access to the Wall. The wild (unrestored) Jiankou section of the Great Wall, the highlight of this hike, certainly can be at times technically difficult and challenging for the casual hiker, but Peter made it possible to comfortably "conquer" and enjoy this rigorous stretch, through his detailed guidance, useful advice, and strategically spaced breaks. There were no crowds at Jiankou; we met a fairly few isolated hikers on that section. Peter is knowledgeable about the Great Wall's history, and he is a patient and caring guide, cognizant of the guests' different pace on the more difficult parts of the route. Peter was often offering to help with photos at the numerous scenic spots on the Wall. The restored - and correspondingly more crowded - Mutianyu section is incredibly photogenic (on a side note: I visited Badaling independently on a different day, and I liked Mutianyu much better) - the generally downward walk at this point can feel tough at times; Peter's good cheer, ample common sense, and positive attitude made it feel easier! Our driver was courteous, the minivan was comfortable for the longish ride, complimentary water and pre-hike snacks were provided as advertised. The (included) post-hike lunch was at a lovely and (importantly) clean restaurant, serving an assortment of regional specialties as well as better-known Chinese dishes, all shared and rotated around the table in the traditional Chinese fashion. Multiple local beers were on offer. Altogether, I would unhesitatingly recommend this company and this particular small-group hiking tour. The Great Wall is an absolute must-see (and a must-feel).

"One-Day Jiankou to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour"

Reviewed June 16, 2017

I had an incredible time in Beijing but the Jiankou to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour stood out as the most amazing portion of the trip. We had 3 adults and one 8-year-old on our tour. The views were breathtaking. Mark, our guide, entertained and shared his deep knowledge of the history and culture of the surrounding region. To top it off, the food was phenomenal at the end of the tour. I highly recommend Trippest and Mark!

"Fantastic hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu"

Reviewed Nov. 7, 2016

We went for a hike on november 7th from Jiankou to Mutianyu with our guide Mark. The hike at Jiankou was amazing! The wild, non-touristy, non-restored section is so beautiful and is very much recommended. Mark was very helpful and informative, both on the hike and on the drive to and from the great wall. Afterwards Mark showed us a great local restaurant 30 mins away where we tried about 10 different chinese dishes and ate till we could not stand. I would recommend both Trippest tour to Jiankou and our guide Mark to anyone.

"Hiking the Great Wall - Jiankou to Mutianyu"

Reviewed April 29, 2017

On Friday, 17th of June, we got picked up for our full day tour, walking the Great Wall from Jiankou to Mutianyu. Our transport was clean and comfortable. Our driver spoke no English, but was happy, friendly and polite. Our guide, Yaxin, was great! He was very informative about both our day ahead, and also pointing out interesting things along the way. The hike itself was amazing! Yaxin took it upon himself to be our personal photographer, knowing all the good photo opportunities, this has left us with so many memories to look back on. Thankyou! We had the first few hours with the wall completely to ourselves. An unreal experience being alone in a part of the world so significant! The hiking was good, difficult in parts, and yes, dangerous in some places if you were stupid about it, but with a great guide and safety in mind, perfectly fine. We had the option to either hike to the top of the bull/ox horn section which is very steep and slippery, or bypass it via another track. We definitely recommend to do take the challenge! The view is amazing and you get the added bonus of being able to say you did it! Once we had made our way to the Mutianyu section of the wall, seeing the contrast between the unrestored and restored parts was really interesting. There were a lot more tourists and was also really beautiful. We chose to take the toboggan ride back down which was a lot of fun. We were then taken to a Chinese restaurant for lunch, where we chose a few dishes and Yaxin shared dishes that he enjoyed also. After lunch we were driven in comfort back to our accommodation. All in all it was a truly amazing day. Thank you so very much to our brilliant guide, Yaxin, you are fantastic at your job and an all round genuinely great person! Your company are very lucky to have you. All the very best with your new family :)
