Visit to the Forbidden City

Walk forward through the middle gate of Tian’anmen rostrum you’ll see a huge red gate in front of you. That is the gate to the Forbidden City. Do you know why all the gates are painted in red? Do you know why it is called the Forbidden City? Do you know how large it is as a imperial palace? It is said that there are 9,999½ forbidden imperial chambers home to 24 emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1420–1911). But where is the other ½ room? Do you know the features of these ancient imperial architectures? Do you know there are tens of thousands treasures being collected in this palace? Did you know the hidden stories and lives of ancient Chinese emperors and their wives? Please find the answers by yourself or ask your guide for the answers while in the Forbidden City.

What makes us different?

Yes, the Forbidden City is a must-see attraction in Beijing. Most travel companies would include this attraction in their trip. But what makes us different?

  1. Skip the lines at the entrance. You don’t have to queue up for the entrance while other groups have to stand in a queue to buy the tickets for more than half an hour! In order to save up your precious time your guide will buy the tickets for you on-line in advance so that you can go in the Forbidden City directly!
  2. We go deep into the attraction. In the Forbidden City, we include 10 important palace chambers along with their history and background information while other groups only glance 6 similar rooms.
  3. Better equipment, better experiences. It is quite touristy and noisy in the Forbidden City. In order to make sure you can hear what your guide is talking about. We have prepared FM headsets for you so that you can hear your guide clearly. Also you guide has prepared an IPad to show you the vivid background histories to you while others have to bear the crowds and couldn’t even hear a word what your guide is yelling.

Drive to the Great Wall at Mutianyu and have lunch at a local Chinese restaurant named Xinshuangquan.

After visiting the Forbidden City we will drive about 1½ hours to the foot of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. We’ll enjoy a delicious Beijing local food for lunch at our well-selected local restaurant – Xinshuangquan. (Please note that the restaurant is subject to change due to some unexpected reasons.)

Why we choose to have lunch at Xinshuangquan?

  • Surely the taste of the food in this restaurant is top-notch. But one of the most important reason that we recommend to use this restaurant is that we can drive our own vehicle directly to the foot of the Great Wall to save your precious time if we have lunch at Xinshuangquan restaurant while others have to wait for the public shuttle bus (usually people have to queue and wait for more than half an hour!).

Visit the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu

After lunch, we’ll begin our hike to the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu which would defiantly be the highlight of the day! This section of the Great Wall is ranked top among all parts of the Great Wall on TripAdvisor for its unique picturesque scenery, less touristy and fully-restored architecture.

In order to save your time, we suggest you to choose round-way cable car or round-way chairlift and toboggan ascend to and descend from the Great Wall, instead of spending about 40 minutes climbing lots of boring steps. (Please note that we have included the costs of round-way cable car or round-way chairlift and toboggan ascend to and descend from the Great Wall. If you want to take one way cable car and one way chairlift or toboggan, you need to pay the price difference CNY80 per person at your own expense.)

At the Wall you’ll have free time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and your guide will show you the background information of the Great Wall. The cable car ascends to and descends from the 14th watch tower. We recommend you to hike up the most beautiful part of the Great Wall – between the 14th and 23rd watch towers which were known by hikers as “the Golden Route”. However the chairlift ascends to the 6th watch tower while the toboggan descends from tower 6 too. It might be a challenge to hike from the 6th watch tower to the 23rd watch tower. But you can decide based on your physic condition.

Normally it would take about 2 hours to complete the hike from the 14th watch tower to 23rd watch tower.

Good to know:

  • Why we choose visit the Great Wall in the afternoon? Good question! We found that it would very crowded in the Great Wall in the morning while there are fewer crowds in the afternoon also the traffic conditions would be much better in the afternoon. And it is the best time for taking good photos in the afternoon. That’s why we decide to visit the Great Wall in the afternoon.
  • Get refreshed in Trippest Refreshments Kiosk! We have set up a Refreshments Kiosk at the foot of Mutianyu Great Wall. Trippest customers will receive free drinking water at the service site.

Transfer back to your hotel

After visiting the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu this day trip comes to the end. Your guide and driver will transfer you back to your hotel or airport (train station) to catch your onward flight (train). Going back to your hotel in Beijing will normally take about 1½ hours. Going to Beijing Capital Airport directly normally takes about 2 hours from Mutianyu.

"Amazing!"

Reviewed June 23, 2017

I was a little nervous to travel China as a young girl so I decided to book this tour and I am so happy I did! My guide William was friendly, knowledgeable and overall great. There were only a couple of us on the tour so it was personal as well. William was always offering to take pictures and share his knowledge on the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Tiananman Square. I would recommend this tour to anyone. :)

Amazing trip!! Tour guide Cactus, was outstanding! Exceeded my expectations. Not only visited the listed places but Cactus went over and beyond to show us additional things outside of the planned trip. Also picked great places to eat and it was important to her that we had private areas to eat at where we could hear and enjoy the small groups company. I would highly recommend requesting Cactus, on your adventure!!

Jimmy was an excellent tour guide. He was on time, personable and extremely knowledgeable on China's history. We appreciated his VIP tour and his thoughtfulness of our group. He made sure our group was away from the crowds and allowed us to view the different sites with exclusivity. He is fluent in English and Mandarin allowing our visit to the Forbidden City to be so much better. Thanks Jimmy!!
